Phoenix Arizona Job Guide

When considering a move to Phoenix from outside the state or just a move across town, your job and the future job market plays a critical role in your decision. This section of PhoenixAz Insider gives you an introduction to the major sectors of the job market and where to find that perfect job as part of your move to Phoenix.

Corporate Headquarters

One of the reasons why Phoenix is growing so much is our climate. Although summers can be a bit hot, we don't have to worry about earth quakes, mud slides, floods, snow storms and black ice. This makes Phoenix and excellent destination for corporate headquarters, call centers and data centers.

Finance, Banking and Mortgage

Finance and mortgage industries have a major presence here. North Phoenix is the home to American Express and Discover Card Services. The Camelback Corridor hosts a number of branch offices from major brokerage houses. And Scottsdale has a number of financial planners, wealth managers and stock market related companies. The mortgage and title industry are spread throughout the valley to support the real estate industry. Downtown Phoenix is home to a number of banking and insurance companies.

Government Jobs

With over 1.3 million people in the Phoenix area, according to the 2000 Census, we need considerable local and state government services. This results in a number of government jobs of all types including police officers, fire fighters, parks and recreation, finance and information technology, corrections officers, courts and legal services, and numerous more areas.

Health Care Jobs

Phoenix's past image may have been that of a retirement area for seniors. We've grown considerably beyond just this so that senior communities are just a small precentage of overall Phoenix. But the foundation for a solid medical infrastructure has already been set. And with the aging of the baby boomers, medical needs will be a primary focus in the years and decades to come. The Medical Profession with various health care options and a strong nursing corp will be a priority in the future and a major area of job growth.

Home Construction, New Home Builders

The Phoenix area is undergoing a huge amount of residential and commercial development both on the ever expanding outskirts and also in the heart of the city with remodeling and infill projects. This creates a huge demand for artitects, construction, builders, inspectors, interior designers landscapers, painters and various trademen.

Information Technology and High Technology

A number of major companies have relocated data centers and information technologies to the valley to take advantage of the stable climate and the relatively inexpensive tech work force. Data analysts, software anyalsts, project managers, systems administrators, programmers and testers have a number of large companies to choose from. During the dot-com bubble a number of software startups were created but didn't last. There are still a few companies that base their business just on software and services. Look for them in the Scottsdale and Tempe areas. Phoenix also high technology manufacturers including Intel, Motorola, Honeywell and some defense contractors.
